Programmers — Earning money or staying sane!
There’s something about earning money that gives us a weird type of peace..
You can get your favorite watch, stay in better hotels, travel to nicer places, buy better quality clothes, go to expensive restaurants, spend it on things without having to worry too much!
That’s great.
Now, I’ll tell you what. As an engineer myself there’s a different kind of joy I sense when I don’t worry about a huge salary and money.
I’ll sit and write code at 3 am. I am into it, I care about nothing else. The peace I find in this cannot be obtained with money, ever.
The best lessons I’ve learned have been from writing code without worrying about deadlines or money.
If you’re a software engineer who’s about to go berserk and feeling depressed try to forget about money and just code, write a lot of code. Dig into different types of open source projects, figure out how things are built. Just forget about the money.
Things will slowly fall into place. Money won’t always come with the peace you’re looking for.
